design poetics: reason for success

Reason for Success

The alarm is ringing
My arm struggles to silence
My body aches from my previous day
My legs refuse to obey my mind
All I want is sleep
But I mustn’t
All I want is to stay still
But I can’t
All I want to do is quit
But I won’t

Walking now I find myself
No longer by myself
My team, my brothers, are here
Together we work
Together we bleed, sweat, and cry
Together we have the same goal

We must stand and prove
That all this work we do is not crazy
It is not stupid
For to us it makes perfect sense
We all understand that all this work
All this lack of sleep
All this pain
Is what we have to go through together
This is what we must do to win
This is what it takes to be Successful

Fahrenheit 451

The movie Fahrenheit 451 was a very strange one in my opinion.  It’s story that takes place in a word where the owning and reading of books is illegal.  Firemen do not put out fires instead they are in charge of hunting down the illegal books and burning them.
If the world today were with out books and literacy everything would be completely different.  Education would go right down the drain.  No one would have that spark that makes him or her different from everyone else.  Imagination would not even be in existence.  We would all be the same.
Reading and writing is what provides that spark.  It allows people to escape reality.  It feeds our imagination and without imagination we would all be the same boring person.
In the film books are burned because they believe that books cause people to be unhappy.  They think that they upset people.  In reality books do the complete opposite.  They create wonderful worlds inside our heads in which we can take wonderful journeys.  With out these worlds life would not seem as beautiful.

Weekly Blog 2: Pandora Redesigned

Pandora has become essential for me.  I find that I use it on a daily basis, whether I'm in the library or just hanging around in my room.  Its a great way to just sit back and let someone, or something, else take control of you musical needs.  Today Pandora released their new design that has been in testing since July.

This update has not only changed the layout but has added a few new features.  It is now easier to create and manage play lists, has improved socialization.  The new update also provides more information on the artists along with lyrics, biographies, and larger album art.

A great thing about this new update is that there is no longer a 40 hour music listening limit for non premium members.  Even though it seems pretty unlikely to listen to 40 hours of music at once, I still think that its pretty cool that i now have that option.

New Media E-card

I wanted to create an invitation to send out to all the family members of my team.  I thought it'd be cool to receive something like this instead of just hearing about it through the players and coaches

Ive without Jobs

I found an article on latimes.com talking about Apple's head designer and how that now Steve Jobs has stepped down this designer has to make some calls without any help.  The designer's name is Jonathan 'Jony' Ive, a British born designer who joined Apple in 1992.  Together he and Jobs created some of the most breakthrough pieces of technology.
Before Jobs stepped down as CEO of Apple, he and Ive worked together to create incredible designs. The  work the created allowed Apple to release hits for over ten years.  Now that Jobs is gone Ives has the responsibility resting on his shoulders.  He'll now have to make some very important decisions that have the potential to make or break the company.
I hope that Ive will be able to continue creating amazing designs.  I personally love Apple products so I would hate to see the company loose its image of uniqueness.  I think that Ive will be able to carry on what he and Jobs did for many years.
